Altab Ali Park, just across the road and a very short walk, east bound from the Whitechaple Gallery.
Whitechaple Gallery Exhibitions.
Wilhelm Sasnal. As Sasnal himself states: 'There are no rules.' The only rule is that 'you must not cheat'.
The Government Art Collection. Selected by Cornelia Parker; Wonderful idea of arranging the selected images in a colour theory.
A Political Arena, associating the colours with British Political Parties, and as she said; then going the whole nine yards, using all the colours of the rainbow. Hanging the works close together, juxtaposing Old Masters and Young British Artists, formal and conceptual, floor to ceiling... reminding me of The Summer Exhibition at The Royal Academy of Arts, allowing them to engage in new dialogues/new meanings.
Mark Rothko in Britain: An American Artist. Array of photographs and letters from the artist, alongside Rothko's painting Light Red Over Black (1957) interesting display. Somewhat like the layout in a Museum.
My favourite! The Bloomberg Commission: Joiah McElheny.
Into a hall of mirrors with light and illumination, accompanied by musical performances and abstract films. I was mesmerized! moving into different positions in the space, I could get a feeling of an outer world experience. The music beating to a rhythm of a matrix, with subliminal filings. |
