Clay and Paper Clay

 Continuing with the them... '13'
Playing around with ideas, using different materials.
Had chat with ceramics technician - Tim.  Came up with some interesting possibility's.
Decided to start with mixing together some paper clay, mix - 2 clay, 1 mulch paper.
Slow process and not sure of the outcome, but its all part of the learning.
Letting the clay dry to a leather consistency and forming it into a ball, but in my case its - The Rock.
Pinching bits of clay from my rock and rolling them out on a clean flat surface, forming into rods.
I could have used a board on top to create a more even roll, instead I used the flats of my hands,
gives a more organic feel to the work.
Took several hours to get to the stage before firing, (baking) three days in fact,
but I have been in the making mode and anything can happen.

Result after firing?  One break, but that happened before going in the kiln.
Happy with the results so far.

Warm glow with natural clay colour, tempting! but I have decided to add glaze.

Using a blue glaze, dipping process - really experimenting.
Have tried to brush the glaze on, but it don't really work.
Yes! there is brush on glaze, I want to use, but not for now.  I'm not precious about the finish.  I really want to have mistakes.  This gives me a chance to figure out possible ways around these mistakes and maybe leads on to other developments.  In a way I could say it was - or is - a bit like brainstorming, this can lead into other avenues, giving me a much wider range in possibility's.

Keeping busy while in the ceramics work-shop.
Coming up with some new ideas, yet again! and whilst I'm in the swing
of making and experimenting, lets try another twist?

Inflated Art!

Emma experimenting with various materials in order to create shape/colour.
Not all of her experiments work, but why should they?
Just happened to be around while she was working on a balloon shape,
this was the outcome.  She didn't panic, my guess is - she's been
down this road before?
Always good to have a camera at hand.

 Experimenting in the ceramics workshop.

Right click on the photo, go into properties and read the other side of the pictures.
How do you right click on an apple?  I don't know.

Part 2. 3rd Year Students. Triangle

You got to work with me on this one!
Looking through some old photos, I've noticed on some of the photo's,
people have written on the back's  in order to document the event, or what ever.
In this case I have some text on the back of my photos.
All you got to do is right click on the photo (each photo has got some text of some kind) and go into properties.
Have your self a little story.

3rd Year Students. Triangle Show

Third year BA students, making good use of the triangle space.  On entering the space I could sense something different, lots of people milling about, nothing unusual about that.  I'm having a good look at the art work and from time to time having a chat with fellow students, finding the art work interesting and in particular how they have used the space.  The triangle - not an easy space for curate.  I noticed two free standing flood lights, directing the light to the ceiling and because one upright light was positioned tight up to the glass section of the rear wall, thinking that it was someones art work.  Looking at the positioning, it was only then I noticed that this was the actual lighting for the show, apart from two spot lights and film projections.  It really worked, with a soft glow in some areas, giving out some interesting shadows.  The only problem I felt was with the paintings in the far corner, on ones left as one entered, should have efficient lighting.  These photos were taken today, before lunch, the mood seemed to have changed from the evening before and yet the art work was even more interesting, some pieces of art had actually changed in form.  Have decided to change the way in which I would usually view around a gallery, taking some photos.   Chose to take close up shots.   Some text on the back of the photos.   Go on, have a look.
